The PRSA 2010 Silver Anvil Awards podcast series features finalists from this year's program. The Silver Anvil Award recognizes complete public relations programs incorporating measurable and sound research, planning, execution and evaluation. These four areas represent the solid criteria by which senior practitioners judge each entry to ensure it meets the highest standards of performance in the profession.
Listen in as Deb Radman, APR, PRSA Fellow, speaks with Linda Kohl, associate vice chancellor for public affairs, and Whitney Stewart Harris, executive director of diversity and multiculturalism, at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, about the “Make College a Part of Your Future” campaign.
To encourage students from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education to consider college, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities developed brochures and posters in nine languages – English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, French, Russian, Vietnamese, Ojibwe and Dakota – and advertisements in minority newspapers and mass transit, particularly in neighborhoods with concentrations of underrepresented groups.
The campaign was designed to reach out to students in eighth, ninth and 10th grade and their parents, as well as to answer questions about college and financial aid. Within months, reprints were ordered to meet demand. Fall 2009 enrollment of new students from underrepresented groups increased by 22 percent.
