Michael Smart, of Brigham Young University, Shares the New Rules of Media Relations

Michael Smart head shot web readyPRSA 2010 International Conference presenter Michael Smart, national news director, Brigham Young University, speaks with Eric Schwartzman, host of “On the Record…Online,” about the new rules of media relations, and shares tips on increasing the effectiveness of pitching reporters. Smart will present a session titled, “The New Rules of Media Relations: Pitch Overworked Journalists and PR-Averse Bloggers, and Come Out Unscathed,” at the PRSA International Conference in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 18.
In addition to serving as the national news director at BYU, Smart is an independent media relations trainer and coach. He has won numerous awards from various public relations groups for writing and media relations. He has also taught public relations courses for five years at BYU, where he earlier earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications with an emphasis in public relations.
