Public Relations and Government Relations: Developing a Cohesive Action Plan on Health Care Legislation

January 29, 2010 by Will Titus

Whether at the state or national level, health care reform legislation affects every aspect of the delivery system – corporate and non-profit, agency and client, provider and payer. Too often, PR and GR find themselves at the table with different ideas about goals, objectives and strategies. How can you build and execute a cohesive action plan when differences of opinion get in the way? The Texas Hospital Association’s PR and GR functions have been working cooperatively for more than a decade, and will share their lessons learned.

This Health Academy brown bag session features Ann Ward, APR, senior vice president, corporate communications, Texas Hospital Association. In addition to providing communications support for THA’s advocacy activities, Ann is responsible for THA member communications, public education, media relations, public relations and marketing communications.

The session also features John Hawkins, senior vice president, advocacy and public policy, Texas Hospital Association (THA). He is responsible for managing all aspects of THA’s state advocacy efforts before the Legislature and regulatory agencies.

A Q&A session follows the presentation.
